Our minds are full of thoughts repeating over and over again all day, from one day to another. They are there for a reason. Thoughts motivate us into action and remind us about what’s important. However, when we are unconscious of them, they might have too much power over us and even be harmful.
While thoughts are inside our own minds, most of us are not familiar with them. Meditation is a practice, which can help you in understanding them.
When I began to meditate, my thoughts started rising to the surface of my consciousness. I started to notice how stuck my thoughts were in the pattern they had. It was like a record playing the same destructive and negative voices in my head over and over again.
I didn’t know that there was another way to think. I didn’t know that I could actually change the repetition of those thoughts into positive ones
How does a meditation practice work?
Through meditation, you become aware of the thoughts that keep running through your mind. In the moment of being still with yourself, you can find a space to watch your thoughts from a distance. Observing the movement in your mind this way allows you to have a closer look.
When you meditate or practice awareness in stillness, you are giving yourself the time, and the permission to move into that space. You feel safe getting familiar with your thoughts.
Meditation is observation
That is the purpose of meditation: observation. Our ego wants recognition for everything we do, but meditation is not the place for that. It’s about getting to know yourself, your mind, your thoughts, your beliefs, and your feelings.
Taking the time to practice meditation is so important for your mental health and self-development. You can start changing your thoughts and aligning your behavior with your True Desire, but you must first know yourself and become aware of your thoughts.
