Positive affirmations

What are positive affirmations as a practice?

Positive affirmations are phrases that affirm your positive thoughts and beliefs about yourself and the world. They can be used as a powerful tool to teach your subconscious mind to think new thoughts.

Repeat to remember

The power of the affirmations is in repetition. The repetition of affirming and supportive thoughts to yourself daily can become a healthy habit, just like having a healthy breakfast or going to the gym.

With time, these affirmations will become a part of your internal chatter.

What is internal chatter?

Our mind has fluctuations, which can be learned patterns, beliefs, thoughts, memories, or simply words. They can be a result of how we were spoken to when we were children, which might result in unconscious words or phrases repeating in our minds.

The inner chatter, the repetitive thoughts in words or sentences, can also be learned, in which case it is a conscious effort taken. Yet, there might be inner chatter we taught ourselves that served at one point in our lives, but which doesn’t serve us anymore.

We can have internal chatter that can be harmful to us. It can keep us from living the life that we deserve. Becoming aware of these thought habits is important so that we can stop repeating negative thought patterns.

Recognizing how we speak to ourselves, and when, we can put a stop to any negative or limiting inner talk and start replacing destructive thought patterns with positive affirmations.

How to start practicing positive affirmations?

You can start by listening to positive affirmations on a mindfulness app, such as Insight Timer, or even YouTube. If you are more of a visual person, it might help to read them over and over again.

I like to write affirmations for myself when journaling, and that makes me process them even more. In a yoga class, we often set an intention at the beginning of a class, and this intention can be an affirmation for yourself.

I intend to collect affirmations for you to help in any situation where you would find them useful. Try out these positive affirmation practices and learn more about their power.
